Hasbara Year Book |
Joseph Abrin
Where you living now and what are you up to? Are you married and/or have any children? Recently I moved from Detroit (MI) to Palm Beach (FL) to work for the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. Here I'm doing teen programming and have some very exciting responsibilities! I have the privilege of helping teens become philanthropists, fall in love with Israel, and make new Jewish friends through different events. Not married and no kids but I am currently engaged and planning a December 2012 wedding. What is your favorite memory from your HF trip to Israel? It's tough to really narrow down a specific memory, but living in the old city and really being involved in what we needed to go back and promote made a huge difference in my life. What was the greatest lesson you learned from your Hasbara Fellowships training? Or greatest pro-Israel activism success story? The greatest lesson I learned was to always try and push the positive. Israel does so many great things for the world that to fight a negative battle would always have you digging out of a hole. What does Jewish leadership mean to you? Jewish leadership means having the experience, knowledge, and ability to speak up for causes/events/activities/etc. that you believe in. If you could share any wisdom with current campus activists what would it be? Keep at it and don't give up. Israel and the diaspora need you. Also make sure you enjoy your time doing what you do - being a Hasbara fellow is a special opportunity that not everyone has the opportunity to partake in. |
